FT Professional Glossary

Caveat

A warning that particular things need to be considered before something can be done

Example usage from an FT article:

While it committed to “transitioning away from fossil fuels”, it added the caveat that this must be done “in a just, orderly and equitable manner” and “we cannot ask countries of the global south to not develop their resources”.
