Golden parachute

Part of a work contract in which a business person is promised a large amount of money if they have to leave their job

Example usage from an FT article:

Speculation about Paramount’s future heated up last autumn after its senior executives were granted golden parachute provisions that would kick in if the company were to
be acquired.
